How it works

What actually happens at group.

If it’s your first time, the unknown can feel daunting. So here’s exactly what to expect – step by step, with no surprises. The short version: you’ll be welcomed, you’ll be safe, and nothing is ever asked of you.

01
You arrive

Come along to our Thursday evening group. (6.30-8.30pm) we recommend arriving around 6.15 to get a drink and get settled.

One of our friendly leaders will greet you at the entrance and welcome you to our group.

02
Forms & Policys

We ask you to complete our sign up form, read our code of conduct and sign it. This is to keep everyone safe and ensure we have emergency contact details.

03
We open gently, together

We sit together in a relaxed circle. Our leaders offer a soft welcome and reads our agreement aloud – a simple reminder that this is a confidential, kind, no-judgement space. You don’t have to introduce yourself if you’d rather not.

04
You share - or you simply listen

We will go round the group and introduce ourselves and check in on the week gone by.

If something’s on your mind, you’re welcome to share it; if not, you can simply listen. There is no pressure – tears, laughter, and quiet are all completely okay.

05
We close, and you head home lighter

We wind down gently, and share something we are grateful for. If you’d like a quiet word, someone is always available afterwards. Then you head off – and you’re warmly welcome back whenever you’d like to return. We also can add you to our WhatsApp group for support throughout the week.

06
You can join us for other activities

We run weekly Sunday Wellbeing Walks, social events and workshops for our ladies which you are welcome to join.

Our gentle agreement

A few simple promises we all keep

Good to know

A few practical things

Just bring yourself

No need to prepare anything.

Tea & biscuits on us

There's always a warm (or cold) drink and something nice to nibble.

Step out anytime

Need a breather? Step out and come back whenever you're ready. There's no wrong way to be here.

Questions women often ask

Never. Many women come for weeks and simply listen.

Yes. Everything shared in the group stays in the group.

We adhere to our safeguarding protocol, which means if we feel you or anyone in your care is not safe, we will need to report to the necessary agencies.

No booking and no referral.

We advise you let us know you’re coming, you’re welcome via email, text or call. This is due to us sometimes putting on walk & talks during group which means we are not at the church.

It’s completely free to attend, always.

We’re funded by donations and run by volunteers, so there’s never a charge to be part of a group.

Some of our social events & workshops have a small fee. If you are struggling financially, please do reach out and we can look at other arrangements for these additional activities.

No – and that’s by design.

We’re a peer support group, not a clinical or counselling service. We listen and offer connection, and we’ll happily signpost you to professional help if that’s what you need.

Please note:

We are not a crisis or emergency mental health service.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger or you need urgent mental health support, please contact your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency department.

If you are in the UK and need someone to talk to urgently, you can contact Samaritans, available 24 hours a day:

If your situation is not urgent, we encourage you to contact your GP or your local NHS mental health services for advice and support.

Our service is unable to provide crisis intervention or emergency mental health care.

Of course. Lots of women feel more at ease bringing someone the first time. Both of you are very welcome.
